Yaskawa GA500 Variable Speed Drives: 0.25 kW to 22 kW
Compact motor control for machinery, fans and pumps
The Yaskawa GA500 is a compact, versatile variable speed drive designed for reliable control of AC motors across a wide range of industrial applications. Combining straightforward setup with flexible motor-control options, the GA500 is well suited to machinery, conveyors, fans, pumps and other constant or variable-torque loads.
Available in 230 V single-phase and 400 V three-phase models, the range covers motor ratings from 0.25 kW to 22 kW, with higher ratings available for variable-torque applications. Its compact construction, integrated keypad and flexible control terminals make the GA500 a practical choice for both new installations and drive replacements.

230 V single-phase models
400 V three-phase models
230 Vac single-phase ratings: 0.25 kW to 4 kW
GA500 drives are dual rated according to the application. Variable-torque ratings are normally used for fan and centrifugal-pump loads. The GA500 is supplied with the constant-torque rating selected by default; change parameter C6-01 from 0 to 1 to select variable torque. Always check the voltage rating on the unit nameplate before installation. Applying 400 V to a 230 V unit will cause damage.
400 Vac three-phase ratings: 0.55 kW to 22 kW (30 kW variable torque)
GA500 drives are dual rated according to the application. Variable-torque ratings are normally used for fan and centrifugal-pump loads. The GA500 is supplied with the constant-torque rating selected by default; change parameter C6-01 from 0 to 1 to select variable torque.
Overall dimensions
All units are IP20 and suitable for panel mounting. The units cannot be DIN mounted but they can be through panel mounted with an additional mounting kit if required.
Frame Size 1 to 3 - up to 4 kW

The number identifies the frame size and therefore the width, height and fixing centres. The letter identifies a depth variation. We use these references to show size differences across the product range.
Frame Size 4 to 7 - From 5.5 kW 400 Vac

The number identifies the frame size and therefore the width, height and fixing centres. The letter identifies a depth variation. We use these references to show size differences across the product range.
Hardware feature overview
Note: Frame 4 applies only to the 4 kW, 230 V unit, which is not available with an EMC filter.
Yaskawa GA500 keypad functionality
The GA500 has a removable keypad that can be door mounted using a mounting kit and suitable cable. An alternative multi-line keypad is also available.

Yaskawa GA500 control terminal details and default wiring diagram
The control terminals are the same across the GA500 range. By default, SC and SP are linked for NPN logic. The wiring diagram below shows PNP logic, which is more common in UK and EU installations.

Below is the default wiring diagram for the GA500. This is applicable to all units. Basic operation using a volt-free contact and a potentiometer.

Yaskawa GA500 installation guidelines
The GA500 VSDs detailed on this page are IP20 units and should be mounted in a suitable control cabinet.
If a higher IP rating is required, consider a cold-plate unit, available for 230 V models up to 3 kW. Because the unit has no fan, it can be installed in a suitably sized metal cabinet. Heat can be dissipated through a large metal mounting surface, such as a control-panel backplate acting as an alternative heatsink. Always account for the specified ambient conditions.
Yaskawa GA500 options and accessories
The GA500 accepts one communications option card. A front-mounted module is required to install the card and will increase the unit's overall depth. A remote keypad, connection lead and through-panel mounting kits are also available.
